2018 Needham Election Primary Results

NEEDHAM, MA — If you were expecting any surprises in Needham during the 2018 primary election, you were surely disappointed.
Republican Governor Charlie Baker has defeated Republican primary opponent in Scott Lively. Baker will now face Democrat Jay Gonzalez, who beat Bob Massie in his primary. In Needham, Baker beat Lively 1,012 votes to 321 and Gonzalez beat Bob Massie 4,179 to 594.
In one of the more anticipated statewide races, Democratic Secretary of State William Galvin soundly beat Boston City Councilor Josh Zakim in the Democratic primary, taking 3,471 votes in Needham to Zakim's 1,954.

Democratic U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren's general election opponent will be Republican state Rep. Geoff Diehl. The Whitman Republican beat John Kingston and Beth Lindstrom and picked up 607 votes in Needham to Kingston's 293 and Lindstrom's 345.
Democratic Congressman Joseph Kennedy III's held off primary opponent Gary Rucinski. He earned 5,199 votes in Needham while Rucinski received 327.

Democratic state rep. Denise Garlick had a primary challenge from Ted Steinberg of Needham. Garlick earned 4,358 votes to Steinberg's 1,249. There are no Republican candidates.
Needham Town Meeting member Becca Rausch was Needham's preference for the Democratic nomination for the Norfolk, Bristol & Middlesex District state Senate seat. Rausch earned 2,242 votes in Needham. Jacqueline Katz was the runner up with 232 and Kristopher Aleksov was third with 61.
Democratic state Senator Michael Rush of the Norfolk & Suffolk District was unopposed.
