Needham's Memorial and High Rock Fields Get New Sand
The town completed a sand injection project at Memorial and High Rock Fields that will help keep the fields playable.
NEEDHAM, MA — Needham Parks and Forestry completed a sand injection project at Memorial and High Rock Fields last week. The project entailed sand injections in the outfields at both High Rock fields and Memorial Park 90’ diamond and took place over the past two weeks.
The project is the second part of the project at Memorial Park to handle the run off that occurs from the large hill near the high school and helps mediate some major topography issues and improve the playability of the 90’ grass diamond. Along with the trenches that were installed several years ago to mitigate excess water off the field, adding sand to the outfield and the soils helps the field further by allowing better drainage and reducing the chance for standing water.
This portion of the project was partially funded by a donation Park and Recreation received from Needham Flag Football. Needham Flag Football was co-founded by past Park and Recreation Commission Dave DiCicco who believed in nothing more than getting kids on to fields for sports and recreational play. The check was presented by Needham Flag Football co-founder and Select Board Member Matt Borelli.
