Longtime Newton Democratic activist Sam Glass passed away Thursday at the age of 89.
Services for Glass will be held Sunday, March 4 at 10 a.m. in the War Memorial Auditorium at .
"Newton has lost a great public servant in Sam Glass. His commitment to his country & #NewtonMA was remarkable. Our thoughts w/ his family," Mayor Setti Warren said Thursday via Twitter.

The Newton Democratic City Committee (NDCC) posted a notice about Glass' death on their website Thursday, saying that Glass' "charm, quick wit and upbeat personality warmed the hearts of all those he met."
"We are saddened by his loss and extend our condolences to his friends and family," the NDCC website said.
