McLean, who is the son of retired Newton Lt. Charles A. McLean, is assigned to the night shift in the patrol bureau where he serves as a mentor and field training officer for his colleagues, the department said.

Prior to coming to Newton, McLean worked in the law enforcement field at several private educational institutions. He is a graduate of the MBTA Police Academy in Quincy and holds a master's degree in criminal justice from Western New England College.
McLean is married to his wife Dianna, and father to a daughter and son, Kayla and Bryan.
