NEWTON, MA — Tis the season: On Monday, April 15, some 30,000 runners will make their way through Newton - up Washington Street to Comm Ave before turning onto Chestnut Hill Ave and then Beacon Street as part of the 123rd running of the Boston Marathon. And if you've lived here for any sort of time you know it's pretty magnificent to watch at the firehouse or, really, anywhere along that route. But it also means road closures. If you live on one side of Comm Ave and want to drive to the other side? Good luck: No cars will be permitted to cross while the runners are doing their thing.

And when will that be? Washington Street, and Comm Ave will pretty much be shut down from 8 a.m. until about 6 p.m. along the route, according to Newton Police who have been working with the Boston Athletic Association and law enforcement agencies for the past six months on the security plan along the route.

This year, as with every year, be mindful of the bags and coolers and strollers you bring, as Newton Police are warning they could be subject to search by them. And if you plan to head into Brookline or Boston - you might want to just leave your bags at home altogether.
