Carroll Center For The Blind To Hold Annual Walk For Independence In June
The Newton-based nonprofit's annual walk brings together sighted and visually impaired individuals to support the organization's mission.

NEWTON, MA – Newton’s Carroll Center for the Blind will hold its 11th annual Walk for Independence in June to bring together both sighted and visually impaired individuals in support of the organization’s mission.
The Carroll Center is one of the nation’s largest vision rehabilitation centers and aims to empower those who are blind or visually impaired to achieve independence and lead a fulfilling life.
The event is scheduled for Saturday, June 3 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Walkers can choose either a one-, two-, or three-mile walk around the Mount Ida Campus of UMass Amherst located at 100 Carlson Ave. in Newton.

After the walk, attendees are invited to stay for food, music, accessible games, and giveaways. Guide dogs and family pets on leashes are welcome to attend.
“We are excited to welcome our friends, families, supporters and everyone in the community to our 11th annual Walk for Independence,” Greg Donnelly, President and CEO of the Carroll Center for the Blind, said in a news release. “Every step we take, every dollar we raise, puts people with vision loss further on the path to independence.”

All proceeds from the event will benefit the Carroll Center. Since 2013, the Walk for Independence has raised more than $1 million for individuals in different stages of vision loss.
