5-Car Mass Pike Crash In Newton Cleared; 2 Hurt: Update

All eastbound lanes on the Massachusetts Turnpike near Exit 17 were closed for about an hour Wednesday following a crash in Newton.

NEWTON, MA — All lanes were reopened on Massachusetts Turnpike eastbound near Exit 17 Wednesday morning after a five-car crash prompted a backup all the way to Weston.

Massachusetts State Police reported the crash at about 7:30 a.m. Two people were taken to Newton Wellesley-Hospital with minor injuries, police said.

Images from a MassDOT surveillance camera just before the Star Market in Newton at 7:21 a.m. showed police lights and cars and tractor-trailers at a standstill.

By 8:10 a.m., traffic was moving again in both directions, but expect delays to Wayland.
