NEWTON, MA — Newton police are advising customers of a Newtonville 7-Eleven to check their credit and bank card statements for any irregularities after a card skimmer was found on a payment device at the Washington Street store on Wednesday morning.

Police said the skimmer was found on the register credit card reader. Police said the skimmer (pictured above) was laid over the credit card reader.

Skimmers are small, generally inconspicuous software devices placed over or inside legitimate card readers at ATMs, gas pumps and registers that can capture users' bank information when they pay for items.
