Excessive Heat Warning: Newton Opens Cooling Centers, Crystal Lake
With temperatures expected to challenge 100 degrees this week find out how to cool off in Newton.
NEWTON, MA — As temperatures soar toward 100 degrees this week, Newton has opened cooling centers and Crystal Lake for those in need of some relief from the heat.
The Newton Free Library will be open on Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. for those in need of air conditioning. The library will be closed on Wednesday for the Juneteenth holiday.

The Newton Senior Center at 20 Hartford Street in Newton Highlands will be open to all on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Senior Center will also be closed for Juneteenth on Wednesday.
Residents in need of relief on Wednesday are advised to go to the movie theaters at the Showcase SuperLux on Boylston Street and the West Newton Cinema at 1296 Washington Street.

Any Newton resident who needs assistance with a cooling plan can call the Newton Health and Human Services staff at 617-796-1420 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. City Hall is closed on Wednesday.
Newton will also open the beach at Crystal Lake this week from 4 p.m. until dusk. Hours will be expanded next week when more lifeguards are available.
Newton Gath pools do not open until next week.
All Newton Public School students will be dismissed early on a staggered schedule on Thursday and Friday with no after school activities.
There is no school on Juneteenth.
