[Update 8 p.m.] Fatal Crash on Mass Pike in Newton

[Update: 8 p.m.]

Mass State Police are reporting that the two taken to hospital were children of the third, a woman, who died in the crash. The children sustained non-life-threatening injuries, and are in an area hospital. They were riding in the same vehicle. 

The identity of the deceased will be released after notifications have been made. 

[Update: 3 p.m.]

According to a statement from the Mass. State Police, one of the people involved in this afternoon's crash has died as a result of their injuries. The other two have been transported to an area hospital. 

Police have not released the names of those involved at this time. 

Mass. State Police say the investigation is still very active, and that further details will be released as it becomes available.

[Update: 1:45 p.m.]

Mass State Police (MSP), as well as officers from Weston and Framingham responded to a three-car crash on the I-95 north ramp in Weston. 

State Police said in a statement that one person is trapped in the vehicle, and the Fire Departments from Newton and Weston are working to free that victim, who appears to have sustained life-threatening injuries. Police do not know the condition of the other people involved at this time. 

State Police have closed the ramps from the Mass Pike to Route 95, north and southbound, and the ramp from Route 95 to the Pike at this time. MassDOT representatives are helping direct traffic in the area.

MSP crash reconstruction teams are currently working on the scene.

At 12:50 p.m., reports indicate a single-car crash in the eastbound lane of the Mass Pike. 

Two people were boarded and transported to hospitals in Boston. A third passenger is being extricated from the vehicle. 

Twitter reports indicate that the Weston and 128 northbound exits of the pike has been closed because of the crash.
