It's election day! Polls are open 7 a.m. - 8 p.m.

1. Override special election is...today! Voters will head to the polls today to vote on three proposed tax override questions. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. . Tune in to Newton Patch for election updates throughout the day!
2. Author Alice Hoffman. Author Alice Hoffman will discuss her latest novel "The Dovekeepers" tonight at the Leventhal-Sidman Jewish Community Center. Author/essayist Tova Mirvis will lead the conversation. The event starts at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are $8. Open to the entire community. Contact boxoffice@jccgb.org or 617-965-5226.

3. Poetry series -- note different location. The Newton Free Library's Poetry Series will meet tonight at 7 p.m. on the third floor, beyond the A/V section in the back of the library. The poetry series meets once a month from September-November and also February-April. Each month three, prominent, published poets give readings. An open mic follows with a limit of one poem per person. This month James Arthur, Richard Brostoff and Faye George will give readings. 4. Indoor farmers market closed today. The Newton Indoor Farmers' Market is closed today at the Hyde Community Center due to the election (the Hyde Center is a polling location.) The market will be open next week, 1:30 p.m. - 6 p.m.!

5. License commissioners. The Newton Board of License Commissioners will meet tonight at 6:30 p.m. in room 222 at City Hall. The agenda for tonight's meeting is available online.
