Five Things You Need to Know Today: March 9

Chinese Cultural Festival, a screening of "Frakenweenie" and a concert with jazz singer Kathy Kosins.

1. Highland Jazz Series - Kathy Kosins. Jazz vocalist Kathy Kosins will make her first East Coast appearance at tonight's Highland Jazz concert at Newton South High School. Kosins is celebrating the release of her CD, "To the Ladies of Cool." The show starts at 8 p.m. and tickets are $20 at the door.

2. Movie screening. The Newton Free Library will host a free screening of "Frankenweenie" tonight in the Druker Auditorium. The film is rated PG.

3. Chinese cultural festival. The Newton Heritage Festivals will continue today with the Chinese Cultural Festival at the Newton Cultural Center from 9:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. The event will include music, dance, martial arts and more.

4. "Beauty and the Beast." The Brimmer & May Upper School will present "Beauty and the Beast" this afternoon at 2 p.m. Tickets are $6 for students/children and $12 for adults.
