Five Things You Need to Know Today: May 5
A free concert, free museum admission and a community singing event.
1. Used book sale. Solomon Schechter Day School (Lower School) will host a used book sale today from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Come check out thousands of books as well as DVDs. All sales support the SSDS libraries.
2. Newton Community Sing. Bigelow Middle School music teacher, Jamie Alberts is directing Newton's first Community Sing. Led by songleader Nick Page, along with the talents of the Newton Country Players; Folk Society of Greater Boston; Newton All City Honor choirs; Newton Public Schools Music Department; Silver Newtones; Zamir Chorale of Boston; Newton Choral Society and JourneySongs. Everyone is invited to attend and join in, regardless of age or musical ability. The community event will be held at the Newton Cultural Center from 4 p.m. - 6 p.m.
3. Family art. The New Art Center invites local families to spend some quality time together while creating art and meeting new people. Drop-ins are welcome to today's Family Art Together session, which will include crafts for Mother's Day. Fee is $10. The session runs from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.

4. Free concert. Clarinetist Todd Brunel and pianist Paul Carlson will give a free concert this afternoon at the Newton Free Library. This afternoon's performance, which starts at 2 p.m., will include classical music as well as selections from the great American songbook.
5. Free museum admission. According to a press release issued this week, Bank of America and Merrill Lynch cardholders in the area can receive free admission to a number of Boston museums this weekend including the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (Mass MoCA), the MIT Museum, the Fuller Craft Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts. Photo ID and a valid Bank of America/Merrill Lynch credit or debit card must be presented at the time of visit. There will also be free admission at the Jackson Homestead & Museum in Newton today, which is open noon - 5 p.m.
