Former Newton Resident Dies After Falling Through Ice In NH: Report

NEWTON, MA — An Ireland native with strong ties to Newton has died after falling through the ice on a frozen pond in New Hampshire, according to a report from MSN.

56-year-old Emer Mezzetti was walking on Big Island Pond in Derry, New Hampshire when she fell through the ice at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 10. According to witnesses, she was screaming for help before disappearing underwater.

Born in Dublin, Mezzetti moved to Newton at a young age and spent a large portion of her childhood there. She lived in Atkinson New Hampshire at the time of her death.
