Hot Off the T: 5 Things to Do in Boston This Weekend

Looking to get out of Newton for a bit? All these great events are accessible by the D branch of the Green Line.

  1. EARTHFEST 2011
    Where/When: , Saturday, 11 a.m. - 4:45 p.m. 
    Why Go: Sponsored by Whole Foods (so we’re banking on some tasty food samples), this year’sEarthFest features performances by Atomic Tom (perhaps you’ve seen this video?), SpongeOK Go and LIVE’s Ed Kowalczyk. Isn't being an environmentalist fun?
    Pricing: Free
    Take the Green D Line to Park Street Station and walk six minutes to the Esplanade.
     
  2. CHIHULY GLASS EXHIBIT AT THE MFA
    Where/When: Museum of Fine Arts, through Aug. 7, 2011.
    Why Go: "Over the course of his career, Dale Chihuly has revolutionized the art of blown glass, moving it into the realm of large-scale sculpture" and we hear that this exhibit is amazing. 
    Pricing: Adults: $20; Students/Seniors: $18. 
    Take the Green D Line to Fenway Station and walk 16 minutes to the MFA. Or you can transfer to the Green E line at Arlington Station and get off at the MFA stop.
     
  3. BOSTON THEATER MARATHON XIII
    Where/When:  , Sunday, noon - 10 p.m. 
    Why Go: 50 ten-minute plays by 51 New England playwrights presented by 50 New England theatre companies in 10 hours. Read that one more time, slowly. Pretty awesome, right? Purchase tickets here
    Pricing: $25 in advance, $35 day of the show.
    Take the Green D Line to Arlington Station and walk 12 minutes to the Boston Center for the Arts.
     
  4. DYI FLEA MARKET
    Where/When:  Massachusetts College or Art and Design, Saturday at 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.
    Why Go:  It features more than 60 local designers and artisans selling everything from fine art to baked goods.
    Pricing: Free.
    Take the Green D Line to Fenway Station and walk 16 minutes to MassArt. Or you can transfer to the Green E line at Arlington Station and get off at the Longwood Medical stop.
     
  5. SOUTH END LIBRARY BOOK SALE
    Where/When:, Saturday, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. 
    Why Go: Hardcovers will go for $1 and paperbacks for 50 cents. We doubt you'll find that good of a deal even on Amazon. 
    Pricing: Free.
    Take the Green D Line to Arlington Station, transfer to the Green E Line and take that to the Prudential Stop. Then walk eight minutes to the library.
