Local Newton Orchestra Closes Season At Brown Middle School
The New Philharmonia Orchestra will perform music from Still, Mendelssohn, and Tchaikovsky, and will feature a Boston Symphony violinist.
NEWTON, MA – Newton’s local orchestra, the New Philharmonia Orchestra, will close its 28th season this Sunday with a performance at Brown Middle School.
The performance will take place at 3 p.m. at the school, located at 125 Meadowbrook Rd., and will feature the music of Still, Mendelssohn, and Tchaikovsky.
Principal Conductor Jorge Soto will lead the New Phil as they open with William Grant Still’s Mother and Child for String Orchestra. Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E Minor follows, featuring Boston Symphony Orchestra violinist Julianne Lee as soloist. Lastly, the program concludes with Tchaikovsky’s iconic Symphony No. 5.

Lee currently holds the position of assistant principal second violinist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and has an extensive career as both a violinist and violist. She has appeared frequently as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral player.
In the fall of 2023, Lee will be joining the internationally-celebrated and Grammy-nominated Dover Quartet, Ensemble-In-Residence at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, as a violist.
Tickets are now on sale. The price ranges from $37-45 for adults, and $10 for students. Tickets can also be purchased at the door.
