Man Sentenced For 10 Home Break-ins
Juan Castano is a New York resident who traveled to Massachusetts to break into homes.
NEWTON, MA — Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan announced Friday that a New York native has pled guilty to a series of break-ins to homes in Newton, Andover, Wellesley, and Quincy.
32 year-old Juan Castano broke into a total of ten homes between June and July of 2021. Four homes each were broken into in both Newton and Quincy, while Andover and Wellesley each had one. According to Ryan, Castano specifically targeted families of Asian heritage. Across the ten homes, approximately $200,000 worth of property was stolen. Based on the investigation conducted, it is believed Castano scouted the homes by approaching the door with a clipboard posing as an advertiser. Wedny Reyes was identified as an accomplice.
Castano pled guilty to a total of 21 charges, and was sentenced to 4 to 5 years in state prison. At the time of his sentence, he was also serving a sentence of 5.5 to 11 years in New York for similar convictions.
