MassBay Collaborates with NewTV to Launch Student-Run Podcast
The inaugural episode of "The BayWatch" was created, written, produced, and edited by six student interns.

NEWTON, MA — A group of student interns for MassBay Community College’s Communication Department have successfully launched The BayWatch, a student-run podcast, in partnership with Newton’s cable access channel, NewTV.
The inaugural episode, which runs just under 30 minutes long, was created, written, produced, and edited by six student interns with the support of NewTV. The first episode shines a spotlight on student life at MassBay, providing an authentic glimpse into the college experience through the stories and experiences of its students.
“MassBay is grateful to NewTV for their partnership on this exciting project,” said Crotty Guttilla, Associate Professor and Chair of the MassBay Communication Department. “Because it is student-run, the BayWatch podcast authentically conveys the experience of community college students. And, thanks to the expertise and state-of-the art equipment of NewTV, the podcast is professional-grade in terms of production and audio quality. We are very proud of it.”

This podcast, under the guidance of Guttilla, was created by students for students, and is the first-ever MassBay produced podcast. The student interns involved in the project include Sabrina Flood of Framingham, Ronan Keane of Needham, Benjamin Kisija Hopkinton, Daniel Mizahi of Newton, Juliana Pineda Lopez of Brighton, and Colin Purdy of Dedham.
“This team of students have worked very hard on The BayWatch, and we are thrilled it has launched,” said Pineda Lopez in a statement. “Knowing that Professor Guttilla intends to continue the podcast with future student interns assures us that our effort was just the beginning. We feel like with The BayWatch, we have left a legacy at MassBay and a high-quality podcast for future listeners to enjoy.”
