Mayor Unveils Big Housing Plan for Newton

A huge new housing complex is in the works in Newton.

Newton Mayor Setti Warren unveiled a huge housing plan on Thursday, according to The Boston Globe.

The plan highlights 70 locations in the city with seven specific spots to be considered for the mixed-use housing development site which would resemble the 68-unit housing and retail complex on Austin Street.

The complex would offer private and publicly owned lower and middle income families as well as market-rate units. In total, there would be 171 units with 20 percent going at affordable rates.

“This is a recognition that the city is changing, and it’s an attempt to preserve what we love about Newton, while giving people of all backgrounds an opportunity to live here,” Warren told The Globe. “It would all be in jeopardy if we do nothing.”
