Monday Essentials: Swimming Schedule Changes, Teen Advisers, Dog Training

Here's your glimpse of the week ahead and what you need to know in Newton.

Teen Think Tank at Newton Free Library

The Newton Free Library is asking teens to weigh in on how the library can best serve them. The inaugural meeting of the Teen Think Tank is Tuesday at 5 p.m. (and, yes, there will be snacks).

"Millionaire Maker" in Newton

Author Loral Langemeier will be at the Newton Marriott in Auburndale on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The talk is free and parents are invited to bring their teens. Space is limited so register online.

Blood Drive

The Newton Free Library will host a blood drive Wednesday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Schedule Change at Gath Memorial Pool

This is the final week of the regular season weekday hours at Gath Memorial Pool. Weekend hours remain the same until Labor Day (1 p.m. until dusk), but the week day hours will change beginning next Monday, Aug. 19. For full details, see the city website.

Last Week for Crystal Lake

Crystal Lake will close for the season on Aug. 18. Get your swimming in this week.

Dog Training Classes

Two of three upcoming dog training classes will take place this week. The classes are free to owners with dogs licensed in Newton. Sign up for one of the classes offered Aug. 15, 18 or 24.

Electronics Drop-Off

This coming Friday and Saturday, Aug. 16-17, are the monthly electronics drop-of days at Rumford Avenue Recycling Depot. If you have televisions, appliances or other electronics to drop off, this is your week for August. Check out the list of accepted items and drop them off Friday or Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.
