NEWTON, MA — Part of the Mass Pike was closed in Newton again early Friday afternoon as crews continue to evaluate damage to an overpass from a truck crash Thursday morning, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) announced.

A lane closure was in place in the right lane on the eastbound side of the Mass Pike at Auburn Street in Newton as of 12:40 p.m., MassDOT said. Traffic was getting by in the left two eastbound lanes.

Crews were on site continuing to inspect a beam that MassDOT previously said had been damaged in the crash.

Officials on Thursday said a truck with a pneumatic lift in a raised position struck the Auburn Street overpass before 10 a.m.

The crash sheered the lift off the truck and caused visible damage to the bridge.

The crash prompted lane closures on both Auburn Street and the Mass Pike through the morning and much of the afternoon on Thursday.

Though lanes reopened, MassDOT said Thursday night that crews would be back on scene overnight to evaluate needed long-term repairs.

State Police said Thursday morning that injuries linked to this crash were minor.
