New Tenant for Former Newton Highlands Bank of America

A local bank will relocate its current Newton Highlands location to a new spot on Walnut Street.

A familiar name in local banking will soon be moving into a new space in Newton Highlands.

Brookline Bank has decided to relocate its Newton Highlands banking location to the former Bank of America space at 1160 Walnut St., according to Brookline Bank spokesman Peter Roveto.

Roveto explained that the bank will eventually close its Newton Highlands branch at 34 Lincoln St. and reopen in the new space on Walnut Street.

"[The Walnut Street location] is a much more enhanced banking facility," Roveto told Newton Patch.

The new location provides more space, safe deposit boxes and more parking options, Roveto said. In addition, the new bank will be in a "more vibrant" location, as it will be situated right next to the Newton Highlands MBTA stop, Roveto said.

The Newton Highlands Bank of America branch closed in August of last year.

A deal on the new property was just recently finalized and the bank is planning some renovations for the property, Roveto said. The new branch will likely open sometime in fall 2013.

Brookline Bank currently operates three branches in Newton, including locations in Newton Highlands, Newtonville and Newton Centre.
