Newton Kicking Off Pride Month With Flag Raising

The annual celebration is taking place early June.

NEWTON, MA — The city’s Human Rights Commission announced that its annual Pride flag raising ceremony will be held on Tuesday, June 3.

The one-hour event is slated to begin at 5:30 p.m. on the south lawn of Newton City Hall. Each year, the ceremony is dedicated to one ore more community members who have made positive impacts and contributions to the LGBTQ+ community. This year, the ceremony is dedicated to Director of Community Engagement and Inclusion Hattie Kerwin Derrick. She is also the city’s LGBTQ+ Liaison.

Ice cream will be part of the event’s festivities.
