Newton Offering Alternative For Those Affected With Trash Strike

The city is providing a location where those who qualify can dispose of accumulated waste.

NEWTON, MA — Mayor Ruthanne Fuller announced that the city is offering a temporary solution to help properties that contract with Republic Services for their trash pickup.

Republic is currently dealing with a strike from its sanitation worker employees that has lasted nearly two weeks thus far. More than a dozen communities in Greater Boston have been impacted in some form. As of Friday, July 11, the approximately 180 Newton property owners who are dealing with trash overflow can dispose of waste at the Recovery Resources Center on 115 Rumford Ave.

Property owners can confirm their eligibility online. Disposal of trash does come with a fee.
