Newton Police Announce Road Closures Ahead Of Boston Marathon

Road closures along the race route in Newton will be in place starting at 7 a.m. and remain in place until 6 p.m.

NEWTON, MA — The Newton Police Department released a Boston Marathon public information notice Tuesday with information about road closures, parking restrictions, and safety tips for Monday, Oct. 11.

Road closures along the race route in Newton will be in place starting at 7 a.m., one hour earlier than previous years, and remain in place until around 6 p.m. Drivers should expect traffic delays, as no vehicles will be allowed to cross the route during these hours.

Parking restrictions and tow zones will be in place along the entire Boston Marathon route, including the Carriage Lane of Comm Ave and a number of streets around the course route. Parking restrictions will also be in place on parts of all streets that feed into the route. These areas will be marked with "no parking" and "tow zone" signs.

No alcohol is allowed on public property along the course route. For safety and convenience purposes, all bags, backpacks, coolers, and baby strollers are subject to be searched by police and the public is asked to report any suspicious behavior.

"The Newton Police Department in conjunction with the Massachusetts Department of Public Safety, US Department of Homeland Security, Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association and the Boston Athletic Association are asking for the public’s help prior to and on marathon day by reporting suspicious activity and persons," said police.
