Newton Police To Host Developmental Disabilities Community Event

Guests are invited to meet officers and join in on simulated police scenarios throughout the night.

NEWTON, MA — Police in Newton are opening their doors to residents with developmental disabilities and their families this Wednesday at Newton Police Headquarters.

According to a Twitter post from the department, the free event will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday at 1321 Washington Street in Newton.

The event is intended for developmentally disabled residents and their families to see the station, meet local officers and learn how the department can help those living with disabilities.

Guests are invited to chat with police officers and join in on simulated policing scenarios throughout the night.

The goal of the event, police said, is to "reach out to and connect with folks who may need a little extra help."

In a statement, Sergeant Dan Devine said "We look forward to showing you around, answering your questions, addressing your concerns, and building a relationship with you and your family for years to come."
