Newton Police Log: Assault with Pruning Shears; Stolen Truck

Assault with Pruning Shears

Newton Police responded to Newton-Wellesley Hospital on April 22 to speak with someone regarding a stabbing that had occurred earlier in the day on Farwell Road in Newton.

As a result of the incident, Gustavo A. Diaz, 44, of 49D Harvard St., Waltham, was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (pruning shears), police said.

According to the Middlesex County District Attorney's Office, Diaz was arraigned in Newton District Court on Tuesday, April 23, and released on personal recognizance. He was ordered not to abuse the victim and is due back in court for a pretrial conference on June 11, the DA's office said. 

Tires flattened

Newton Police responded to Boylston Street on April 22 after a woman reported someone had flattened three of her Jeep's tires sometime between 12:30 a.m. - 7:30 a.m., reports said.

Domestic incident leads to arrest

A Belmont resident was arrested on April 22 after police responded to apartments on Commonwealth Avenue for reports of a man and woman fighting.

Pankaj Khare, 44, of 35 Grant Ave., was charged with domestic assault and battery and malicious destruction of property over $250, police said. 

Stolen truck

A woman came in to Newton Police Headquarters around noon on April 23 to report that her employer's white box truck had been stolen.

According to reports, the truck had been stolen sometime over the last two weeks and the employer first noticed it was missing on April 18.

The truck had been broken down and left in the business' parking lot, reports said.
