Newton Police Log: House Break-ins; Driver Bails from Stolen Car

Break-in on North Street

Newton Police responded to a home on North Street on March 4 for reports of a breaking and entering. 

According to reports, the resident left her home around 10 a.m. and returned just before 1 p.m. to find her home had been entered. Police searched the home for a suspect, but did not find anyone. 

The entire home was ransacked, police said, but the only item reported missing at the time was a Mac laptop.

Broken Glass at Colony Coin

Police responded to Colony Coin (78 Bowers St.) in Newtonville on March 4 after reports of a glass break alarm.

When officers arrived on scene, they found damage to the front glass door and a brick sitting two feet away, reports said. 

Family disturbance leads to arrest

A Newton woman was arrested on March 4 after police responded to Judkins Street for reports of a family disturbance, reports said. 

Pamela Lynn Hodgdon, 44, of 167 Pearl St., was arrested and charged with domestic assault and battery and intimidation of a witness, police said.

Student found with pot at school

A Newton North High School student was found with marijuana on March 4, police said. The student will be issued a city ordinance violation for possession of marijuana, police said.

Car break-in

A man came in to Newton Police Headquarters on March 4 to report that his car had been broken into on February 6 sometime between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m.

According to reports, the unlocked Suburu was parked on Great Meadow Road.

Another car break-in

Police responded to Crescent Avenue on March 5 after a woman reported someone had broken into her Toyota that was parked in her driveway.

Break-in on Maplewood Avenue

Police responded to a home on Maplewood Avenue on March 6 after a reported breaking and entering.

According to reports, the incident happened sometime between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. It was not clear which door was used to enter/exit, as both the front and side door had pry marks and the back door was unlocked.

The home was left in disarray as the suspect went through all the drawers in the house. Stolen items included a wedding ring, miscellaneous necklaces, cash and Playstation 3 games.

Break-in on Boylston Street

A woman living on Boylston Street told police on March 6 that someone broke into her home sometime between 8:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. 

According to reports, two LCD televisions and two MacBook laptops were stolen from the first floor living room, master bedroom and second bedroom.

Break-in on Bourne Street

Police responded to a home on Bourne Street on March 6 after a resident reported a breaking and entering that happened sometime between 3:45 p.m. and 9:15 p.m.

According to reports, the television in the living room was missing and the suspect had rummaged through several drawers on the first floor and second floor bedrooms.

Pull over -- in your stolen vehicle

Police attempted to pull over a driver on March 6 after clocking him at 37 mph in a 25 mph zone on Walnut Street.

According to reports, police followed the vehicle on to Kirkstall Road where the driver stopped and police pulled behind with a spotlight on the vehicle. The driver then accelerated up Kirkstall Road.

When police were about 100 feet behind the vehicle, the driver turned on to Morse Road, reports said. When police got on to Morse Road, they found the vehicle slowly rolling with the driver's side door open. Police did not see the operator of the vehicle.

One officer then went up to the rolling car and turned off the ignition. After running the information on the car, police found it had been stolen out of the Newton Free Library parking lot on March 1, 2013. 

Newton Police and the department's K9 unit searched the area with negative results.
