Newton Police Logs: OUI in Newton Corner; Robbery; Break-ins

License charges, warrant arrest
Newton Police responded to Quinobequin Road on May 1 after State Police tried to pull over a vehicle, but lost the car in the area.
A detail officer on Woodward Street managed to pull the vehicle over, reports said, and found the driver was driving with a suspended license. The driver also had a warrant out for his arrest.

David M. Katz, 57, of 100 Andrew St., was arrested on a warrant out of Lawrence District Court, possession of a class A substance (subsequent offense). He was also cited for driving with a suspended license, police said.

Newton Police responded to the CVS on Watertown Street on May 2 for reports of a man who left the store with an unknown amount of prepaid credit cards.
The cards were not yet activated and did not have actual cash value, reports said.
According to police, the suspect was described as a Hispanic or light-skinned black male, 5'10"-6" tall wearing a beige zip-up sweatshirt with dark jeans and high top sneakers. The suspect fled the parking lot and turned right on to Watertown Street.
Police checked the area with negative results.
Threats to murder
Newton Police responded to the intersection of Walnut Street and Lincoln Street on May 4 after receiving reports of a fight in the intersection.
As a result, Namron Holder, 17, of 900 Boylston St., Newton, was arrested and charged with unarmed assault to rob, assault and battery and threats to commit a crime (murder).
The music was not loud enough...
A Burlington man was arrested on May 5 after he allegedly drove under the influence of alcohol and fell asleep behind the wheel of his car in Newton Corner.
According to Newton Police reports, officers were dispatched to the intersection of Washington Street and Centre Street for reports of a male party asleep behind the wheel of a red Mercedes.
When officers arrived on scene, they found the car stopped at the traffic signal, just before the on-ramp to the Mass Pike.
Reports said the driver was asleep behind the wheel with the doors locked and loud music playing. The vehicle was running and in neutral.
Police said they noticed a strong odor of alcohol coming off the driver, who also had bloodshot/glassy eyes and slurred speech.
As a result, John Shin Kwak, 28, of 8 Kimball Ct. #110, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and operating with a suspended license, police said.
Car break-ins
Newton Police responded to the following reports of car break-ins:
- May 2, Horace Mann Elementary School - The vehicle owner told police that someone had ripped the lock off his driver's side door and broken into his car. According to reports, the man parked the car next to the school around noon and returned at 6:09 p.m. to find his glove box open and the contents all over the seat of the car.
- May 5, Floral Street - Sometime between 9:30 p.m. on May 4 and 10:30 a.m. on May 5, someone went through the glove boxes of two unlocked cars parked in a driveway.
- May 5, Oakdale Road - Sometime between 4 p.m. on May 4 and 11:40 a.m. on May 5, someone rummaged through the glove box and a coin tray of the car, which was parked in the driveway.
- May 5, Oakdale Road - Sometime between 5 p.m. on May 4 and 11:40 a.m. on May 5, someone removed the coin tray from an unlocked car.
Domestic incident leads to arrest
Two Newton residents were arrested on May 5 after police responded to Dedham Street for reports of a domestic incident.
Hamideh Saba Saadatnejadi, 42, of 194 Dedham St., was arrested and charged with assault and battery, police said.
Yasin Saadatnejadi, 36, of 194 Dedham St., was arrested and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (telephone), police said.
