NEWTON, MA — The Newton Police Department is warning residents of a new phone scam in the area.

Police said a person is posing as a NPD officer using the number 617-796-2100 to scam citizens by stating they can avoid prosecution/subpoenas by paying a fine/fee. It is a scam.

Residents who have given out any personal info or money are asked to contact NPD at 617-796-2123.
