Newton To Present Designs For Albemarle Park, Gath Pool

The city will host two meetings to discuss plans and allow for public feedback.

NEWTON, MA — The City of Newton will host two meetings to present designs for Albemarle Park and the Gath Pool projects.

On Monday, April 25, the Parks & Recreation Commission will discuss the designs at their regular meeting with no public comment. Click here to attend the virtual meeting.

On Tuesday, May 3, a community meeting will be held to will discuss possible Albemarle Park designs from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and the Gath Pool project preferred design from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Public comment will be welcome. To register in advance, click here.

Gath Pool is Newton's sole public swimming pool serving 30,000 users each season. The facility is now over 60 years old with systems and equipment that are past their useful life and decks and infrastructure which do not meet ADA or MAAB accessibility requirements.

The city is now working to examine the pool's existing conditions and develop a plan for a phased renovation. annotated improvements along with costs for a phased renovation of both the main and wading pools.

City officials are also deciding how to improve Albemarle field as part of its master plan for the area. Possible improvements could include upgrading playing fields and creating safer access for bicyclists and pedestrians.
