Federal Gun Charge: Newton Resident Sentenced

The man was arrested earlier this year after multiple firearms were found in his home.

NEWTON, MA — A resident has pleaded guilty in court on a federal gun charge.

James Welch, 29, officially pleaded guilty to one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition on Tuesday, June 10.

Welch was first arrested in February after a pistol and rifle were recovered in his residence. Due to prior convictions, he was prohibited from owning firearms at the time of the discovery.
Welch’s charge provides for a prison sentence of up to 15 years in prison followed by three years of supervised release. It also comes with a fine of $250,000.

U.S. District Court Judge Denise J. Casper scheduled Welch’s sentencing for Thursday, Sept. 11.
