Boston College Student Hit By Commuter Rail Train In West Newton
The 20-year-old from Newton was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, according to transit police.
NEWTON, MA — A 20-year-old woman from Newton was hit by a train in West Newton Friday morning, according to police. She was taken to the hospital with injuries described as serious.
Boston College said the young woman was Ariel Cox, a sophomore at the school. She was taken to Beth Israel Hospital.
Police said someone reported a woman had been hit by a train near West Newton's Commuter Rail station around 10 a.m.

"I ask for your thoughts and prayers for BC sophomore Ariel Cox who was critically injured this morning when she was struck by a train in West Newton. She is in the hospital, surrounded by her family. Fr. Tony Penna from Campus Ministry and and Fr. Jack Butler, SJ, from University Mission and Ministry are also present," the school said in a message to students Friday morning.
Cox is the daughter of Boston College Economics Professor Donald Cox.
The Middlesex District Attorney's office is investigating, but foul play isn't suspected.

Update: Worcester Train 512 (8:50 am from Worcester) is now operating with the extra set between West Newton and South Station and is over 1 hour late due to earlier police activity.
