Police Break Up Street-racing Presence In Newton: Report

More than 100 cars were gathered and doing dangerous things with their vehicles.

NEWTON, MA — The police department responded to an illegal gathering of more than 100 street racers gathered in the vicinity of Newton Centre, according to a report from WCVB Newscenter 5.

Police responded to the scene after receiving multiple calls from nearby residents at approximately midnight on Sunday, Aug. 3. The drivers were reportedly driving erratically and doing burnouts with their vehicles. Surveillance footage from the nearby Oak n’ Barrel liquor store captured some of the activity. While many drivers fled the area upon police arrival, others were given citations for their actions.
