Protest Breaks Out As Newton Street Paint Controversy Is Reignited: Report
The Italian flag-themed street paint was removed by the city for the second time.
NEWTON, MA — Residents of Nonatum Village are once again fighting back as the city removed the red, green, and white lane-dividing street lines on Adams Street, according to a report from NBC 10 Boston.
The paint was removed Wednesday morning, with Mayor Ruthanne Fuller once again saying the Italian-themed paint can go off to the side of the street but the yellow lines must be in the center for safety reasons. The lines were first removed ahead of the area’s annual Festa event in June.
Protestors lined the street shortly after its removal, with some saying they would be willing to go to jail for their cause. Resident Tony Pelligrini Jr. said that Fuller has allowed the design to exist for seven years and that the concerns of safety have just been raised.
