Report: Middlesex County Second Healthiest in Mass.

Among Massachusetts' 14 counties, only Dukes County was healthier according to the study.

According to a study recently done by the University of Wisconsin and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Middlesex County was ranked second healthiest county in the state, falling just behind Dukes County.

Although it was ranked second overall, Middlesex County exceeded Dukes in some areas such as patient to doctor and patient to dentist ratios.

In measures ranging from adult obesity and insurance coverage to premature death and teen birth rates, Middlesex County showed numbers equal to or better than the state averages.

Middlesex County also met or exceeded the national benchmark standard in all categories except for poor physical and mental health days, sexually transmitted diseases, and some various environmental factors.

Overall, Hampden County was ranked least healthy in the state.
