NEWTON, MA — The family of four who was killed by carbon monoxide poisoning last month will have visiting hours at Eaton Funeral Home in Needham on Sunday, Jan. 12 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., according to the family’s obituary.
Matthew Goldstein, 52, Lyla Goldstein, 54, Valerie Goldstein, 22, and Violet Goldstein, 19, were found dead in their Wakefield, New Hampshire vacation home on Christmas Day. Massachusetts Fire Marshal Sean Toomey said no working carbon monoxide alarms were found inside the house.
Matthew Goldstein was an eighth grade science teacher at Brookline’s Baker School. Leaders from the district expressed how significant the loss will be to their community. Valerie Goldstein followed in her father's footsteps, as she was in the midst of her first year as a fifth grade teacher at Bakersville Elementary School in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.
A gofundme has been created with the goal of raising a minimum of $12,000 to establish a memorial fund in the family’s honor. As of Monday, it has received more than 100 donations totaling more than $11,000. According to the fundraiser’s description, the money raised will be distributed but not limited to Brookline Public Schools.
