This weekend thinned the MIAA tournament teams, with the Newton North and Newton South baseball teams among the casualties.

Softball
The No. 10-seeded Newton North girls will head into quarterfinal play on Tuesday, with a home game against No. 15 seed Westford.
Volleyball
The Newton South (No. 1) boys faced the Newton North (No. 5) team in the semifinal round Friday, and Newton South emerged victorious. The Lions will take on No. 2-seed Needham Monday at 6:30 p.m.

Tennis
Boys: Tournament play for the Newton North boys' tennis team, a No. 7 seed, opened Friday with a home victory over Franklin. They'll next be in action on Tuesday, June 4, at home at 4 p.m. against No. 15 Xaverian.
