Voter Registration Deadline for Senate Election is April 10

Time is running out to register for the primary for the April 30 special senate election in Massachusetts.

 

The campaign to replace John Kerry in the U.S. Senate is heating up, but to have your voice be heard at the poll you must be registered to vote.

The deadline to vote in the April 30 primary of the special senate election is Wednesday, April 10. The final special election will be held on June 25.

Voter registration can be done through the mail or in person at Newton City Hall. In addition, you can register at a number of state agencies, including the Registry of Motor Vehicles and the Department of Transitional Assistance, according to the Secretary of State's Website.

Registering by mail

You can request to have a voter registration form mailed to you, but since the registration deadline is tomorrow, you are probably better off downloading a form online and mailing it in to the Elections Division. Remember, the forms must be postmarked by April 10 in order to register for the April 30 primary.

According to the Mass. Elections Division, voter registration forms are also available at local colleges, universities and vocational schools. According to the Newton Elections Department, forms are also available at the Newton Free Library.

The National Voter Registration Form is also available online for those who need to register in other states. 

In person at City Hall

If you have some time today or tomorrow, you can head down to Newton City Hall and register in person. The Newton Elections Department is located on the first floor of City Hall and will stay open until 8 p.m. Wednesday for anyone looking to register at the last minute. 

At the RMV

If you're heading to the Registry of Motor Vehicles to apply for or renew your driver's license, you can fill out the voter form. You can confirm registration by contacting the Elections Department at City Hall. 

Remember...

If you moved recently to a different city or town, you must re-register to vote at your new address. If you moved within the same city or town, just let the local elections office know (in writing) about your change of address.
