Weekend Agenda: Civil War Comes to Newton, Little League Tourney

Newton SouthEast Little League Tourney GamesThe "Comeback Kids" are in Bristol, Conn., representing the state in the regional tournament. It's only about a two-hour drive to support the team in person. According to the schedule, the team plays both Saturday and Sunday (and has some televised games next week).

Civil War Encampment at Jackson HomesteadStep back in time this weekend as re-enactors set up camp at Newton's Jackson Homestead. Walk among the tents, watch military drills and interact with soldiers re-enacting the 28th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. The events will take place Saturday, Aug. 3 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 4 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Children's activities include play with 19th century toys and other events. 

Newton Ward 1 Democratic Committee Summer CookoutSusan Davidoff and David Knuttenun are hosting a cookout at their Bridge Street home on Sunday, Aug. 4 from 4 p.m.-6:30 p.m. The meat will be provided and guests are asked to bring an appetizer or dessert.
