Month-Long Drug Investigation Nets Three

Peabody and Beverly Narcotics Units make three arrests in the city.

The following was submitted by the Peabody Police Department:

On Thursday, the Peabody Police Narcotics Unit along with assistance from the Beverly Police Narcotics Unit concluded a month long investigation of two narcotics investigations that spanned into both cities.

In the first case an arrest and search warrant resulted in the arrest of Luis Canela, age 24, of 14 Collins Street Unit 22, Peabody for the charges of Trafficking – Heroin, Trafficking – Cocaine,Violations of narcotics laws in School/Park Zone and Possession Counterfeit Notes.

Also placed into custody was  Stephanie Santana, age 19 of same address who was also charged with trafficking in heroin and cocaine, and violations of narcotics laws in School/Park Zone. During the investigation both Canela and Santana conducted a drug transaction within their motor vehicle that included their infant child being present inside the vehicle.

Seized pursuant to the search warrants from 14 Collins Street, Unit 22 were 56 grams of cocaine – street value of $5600, 16 grams of heroin – street value of $1600 along with$4600 in cash.

In the second case a Diogenes Gutierrez, age 39, of 50 Warren Street, Apartment 526 was arrested on the following charges: 2 counts Distribution of Class A  drug, 1 count Poss. Intent Distribute Class A drug, 1 count Poss Intent Distribute Class B drug, and 6 counts possession Class E drug. The investigation centered on the sales of heroin from his apartment at 50 Warren Street, Peabody.

Participating in the arrest were investigating Detectives Eric Ricci and David B Murphy, and additional Peabody PD officers Lt. Scott Richards, Det. Sgt. Glen Fredericks, Detectives Joe Gilroy and Stephanie Lane, Detective Richard Garney of Beverly PD, Detective Ted Gallivan of Ipswich PD, and ATF Agents Eric Kotchian and Richard Donahue.
