Thomas Crane Library Launches 'Kanopy' Streaming Service
'Kanopy' is an on-demand video streaming service. It is free to Thomas Crane Public Library library card holders in Quincy.
From PMK•BNC: The on-demand streaming service, Kanopy, has launched in Thomas Crane Public Library in Quincy, as well as the Public Library of Brookline, as one of the features that are free to library card holders.
Kanopy was created as an on-demand video streaming service, originally intended for educational institutions, offering one of the most unique and compelling film collections in the world. The service, which was founded in 2008, is currently becoming more widely available through the US public library system. Brookline and Quincy are two of the first to have this feature and library card holders will have access to all of Kanopy’s content for free. The library pays for its patrons to watch Kanopy’s content, and patrons can access the portal from any computer or device with an internet connection (as well as through Roku).
Kanopy is currently available on more than 3,000 college campuses, and to more than 5 million students and library card holders in 118 countries. It provides film and television titles that are rare, hard to find, but also educational and valuable for personal growth. Kanopy has more than 26,000 titles and growing, where you can find a diverse range of content – anything from Ken Burns’ America to the Criterion Collection - on subjects like Architecture, Design, Beauty, Physics, Journalism, Middle Eastern Studies, Business, Religion, LGBTQ, and Zoology, just to name a few.
