• Brown drops 40: South Shore sports top performers for Dec. 16-20 (patriotledger.com) — Quincy High boys basketball opened the winter season strong, as Yhan Medina and Arber Beqaj powered a 57-44 win over Duxbury with help from teammates Jaethen Pinet and Malcolm McMorrow. The game was part of a busy week of South Shore high school sports standouts across basketball and other winter teams.
   

• Barbara Gilliland (thequincysun.com) — Quincy is mourning Barbara (Ryder) Gilliland, a proud, longtime resident who passed away on December 9 at age 100½. Raised in Quincy after being born in Maine, she graduated from North Quincy High and served in the U.S. Navy Waves; per her wishes, services will be private at a later date.
   

• Boston Man Faces Up to 20 Years After Guilty Plea in Gang Drug Case (townhall.com) — Quincy Police were among several departments supporting a major federal investigation into Boston’s H-Block gang, which led to a Boston man pleading guilty in a cocaine and crack distribution conspiracy. The case, tied to years of gang-related violence, is part of a new Homeland Security Task Force push targeting cartels and gangs across Massachusetts and beyond.
