McDonalds, KFC, Wendy's, Popeyes, and Massaachusetts-born Dunkin' Donuts, all have locations on American Legion Highway.

Conversely, in Roslindale Village residents fought a Domino's chain already established on Washington Street, but not in the Village, from moving into a new commercial space in the Village. After a neighborhood outpouring about why a chain like Domino's would not be good businesses already in the Village, Domino's gave up - and are trying to move to 4000 Washington Street farther down Washington Street, but not in the Village.

Mind you Subway, snuck into the same commercial development that Domino's wanted to set up shop at 4238 Washington Street. Unlike Domino's representatives, Subway did not notify the public and neighborhood organizations as much as Domino's did, which shone a light onto Domino's intended and failed plan to move to the Village.

So how come residents haven't been up in arms about fast-food restaurants on American Legion Highway versus Roslindale Village? Is American Legion Highway already a lost cause to the large chains? Is it a case of two different neighborhoods? Or is fighting against chains from coming into Roslindale Village a new thing in recent years? Please leave your comments below.
