Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested

According to Narragansett police, a Westerly man was arrested without incident Monday morning on a fishing boat in Galilee for a bank robbery committed in Shrewsbury on May 29.

Police said the arrest of Richard Buzon, 29, happened at about 9:30 a.m., near the fishing vessel Provider. Narragansett police noted that there was also a South Kingstown police warrant out for Buzon's arrest, for two felony counts of violating a protective order.

According to online records at the Rhode Island Judiciary, Buzon has more than 25 entries, stemming from 2000 to 2012. Some of those charges:

• In December 2011, Buzon pleaded no contest to a South Kingstown police felony charge of violating a protective order. He was ordered to serve 10 days at the ACI, followed by 11 months probation and an 11-month suspended sentence. The no-contact order was later dropped in February 2012.
• In November 2011, a South Kingstown police charge of violation of a protective order was dismissed.
• In May 2009, Buzon pleaded no contest to a South Kingstown police charge of disorderly conduct. He was ordered to serve six months probation.
• In July 2006, Buzon pleaded no contest to Westerly police charges of domestic disorderly conduct and refusal to relinquish a telephone. He was ordered to serve a year of probation and a year-long suspended sentence.
• In October 2005, Buzon pleaded no contest to Westerly police charges of domestic simple assault, forgery and counterfeiting. He was ordered to serve three years of probation and a year-long suspended sentence. However, because of probation violations, he eventually served a year and two months at the ACI.
• In November 2004, Narragansett police charges of domestic assault, domestic disorderly conduct and domestic vandalism against Buzon were dismissed.
• In March 2003, Buzon pleaded no contest to a Westerly police charge of issuing fraudulent checks less than $1,000 in value. He was ordered to a serve a year of probation and to pay restitution.
• In January 2001, Buzon pleaded no contest to a Westerly police charge of disorderly conduct. He was ordered to serve six months probation.

At a hearing Monday, Buzon was ordered to be held without bail. A status conference was scheduled for Tuesday.
