CT Steak Knife Car Thief Crashes In Shrewsbury, Gets Arrested

The man crashed along Route 20 in Shrewsbury after stealing a car at knife point in Waterbury, Conn., police said.

SHREWSBURY, MA — A Lawrence man who stole a car in Connecticut while wielding a steak knife was arrested in Shrewsbury over the weekend, according to police.

Near 4:30 a.m. Saturday, Shrewsbury police responded to a crash along Route 20, and discovered that one of the vehicles had been stolen in at knife point in Waterbury, Conn., hours earlier. They arrested Urelio De Jesus Galvez, 19, at the scene.

"The driver of that vehicle was arrested on scene. Located on the driver was a large steak knife and personal property of the victim. During the course of the incident, the driver gave multiple false names to arresting officers. The suspect was positively identified through fingerprints," Shrewsbury police said.

Shrewsbury contacted police in Waterbury, who issued a warrant for Galvez. Shrewsbury police arrested him on charges of receiving a stolen vehicle, receiving a stolen credit card, obstruction of justice, being a fugitive, providing false identification, negligent operation of a vehicle and a marked lanes violation.
