Family Of Swans Rescued In Shrewsbury

Four baby swans were pulled from a retention area with their parents.

SHREWSBURY, MA — A family of swans is swimming free thanks to a joint effort between Shrewsbury Animal Control and a local wild bird expert. After getting a call about a swan family trapped in a retention area, Shrewsbury Animal Control teamed up with wild bird expert Jessica Zorge to rescue them.

On Friday afternoon, the team was alerted a swan family of six that were trapped in the retention area of Old Mill Pond. Four swan babies and their two parents were stuck behind the wall. While the parents could fly, they couldn't leave their babies stuck behind the wall.

Zorge hopped into the retention area, wearing a special suit and handed the babies and their parents off to officers who placed them on the other side of the wall, in the pond. The babies were able to safely reunite with their parents and swim off to find food, as there was none in the retention area.
