New Grocery Stores Eyeing White City Location
As the parent company for Shaw's closes stores new retailers look to move in to Shrewsbury.

Since White City Shopping Center was bought two years ago, many things have changed. There are new restaurants, new parking lots and even new trees. One thing that has remained constant, however, is the Shaw's grocery store located in the west half of the plaza.
According to Paul Brandes, the landlord of the shopping center, several that may all change now that the parent company for Shaw's, Supervalu, is closing many stores.
“We have Shaw’s in there right now, but based on what I’ve read the whole chain is up for sale. We need to wait and see what happens with the chain,” Brandes said.

According to an article on Boston.com, Supervalu has announced the closure of about 60 grocery stores around the country.
"Supervalu, which has battled declining revenues for several years, said this summer it was conducting a strategic review of alternatives for the business," Boston.com says.

Brandes wouldn't be specific about plans, only to say that Shaw's is the current tenant and it will remain that way until Supervalu makes a decision regarding the location.
"What I can tell you is that we’ve been contacted by several chains that are interested in opening here if that location becomes available,” Brandes said.
