SHREWSBURY, MA â There has been a recent rise in motor vehicle break-ins throughout Shrewsbury, according to police.
The Shrewsbury Police Department said there has been an increase in vehicle theft in an announcement on Wednesday. Police said that in most incidents, vehicles were left unlocked.
Shrewsbury police said break-ins can happen during the daytime, and many thefts happen when offenders check for unlocked doors.

Here are a few simple steps to help prevent becoming a victim, police said:
- Lock your vehicle every time you leave it
- Remove valuables or anything that may appear valuable
- Do not leave keys or key fobs inside the vehicle
- Park in well-lit areas when possible
- Report any suspicious activity to the police immediately
Officials did not release the locations of the break-ins. Patch reached out to the Shrewsbury Police Department for that information and has not yet heard back.
