SHREWSBURY, MA — Shrewsbury's spring 2023 election is a little over a month away, and the list of candidates running this year has been all but finalized.

Candidates can still withdraw by March 30, but enough candidates returned papers by the March 14 filing deadline to create contested races for select board, school committee and the housing authority. A fourth race will pick three library trustees, but only three candidates signed up to run.

Several incumbents have bowed out of the 2023 election, including Shrewsbury School Committee Vice Chair Jason Palitsch, Select Board Chair Maurice DePalo — who was first elected to the board in 1993 — and library trustee Joan Barry.
